Labiaplasty and Vaginoplasty

Labiaplasty – Cosmetic Vaginal Surgery (sometimes spelled labioplasty ) is plastic surgery of the Labia majora and/or the Labia minora, the external folds of the female genital organs (Vulva). The procedure involves reshaping or reduction of the labia.

Labiaplasty may be undertaken for functional reasons, aesthetic reasons, or a combination of the two. The procedure is frequently performed to reduce the size of one or both sets of labia. It may also be used to repair the labia following disease or injury, or to reshape after childbirth. Maybe you saw one of several episodes on Dr. 90210 for the successful surgical treatment of labiaplasty and vaginal rejuvenation.

Labia Majora (outer lips) Reduction - This common anatomical variation may be worsened by childbirth or by weight gain or loss. They may sometimes be improved by liposuction. In other cases, surgical reduction is necessary.

Labia Minora (inner lips) Reduction - Many women dislike the large protuberant appearance of their labia minora. This may cause severe embarrassment with a sexual partner. The overly large labia minora can also result in constant irritation in tight pants. Surgical labial reduction can greatly improve the aesthetic appearance of the abnormally enlarged labis. Some women are born with large labia, others may develop this condition with childbirth or age.

Labiaplasty is an outpatient procedure usually performed under local anesthesia . After surgery, patients may experience some mild discomfort and swelling, which usually disappears completely after 1-2 weeks.

Genital/Vaginal Reconstruction

Female Genital Reconstruction Surgery (Vaginoplasty) is plastic surgery to repair or reshape or reduce the vaginal muscles and/or the perineum, and interior/posterior repair, and also reshape the mons pubis. The vaginoplasty surgery tightens the vaginal walls, reinforces the vaginal support (muscles and connective tissue), and tightens the vaginal opening. You may hear variations of terms such as: vulvar-vaginal reconstruction, perineum, perineal trauma, perineal dysfunction, sexual abuse, parturition, vaginal introitus, acute deceleration injury, straddle injury, insertion injury, forceful coitus, intrapartum laceration, obstetric trauma.

Vaginoplasty (rejuvenation of the vagina) involves “tightening” and rebuilding of the vaginal muscles and the perineum. Childbirth, (especially multiple), aging, and genetic factors often cause the vaginal muscles to loosen, tear, and weaken. The diameter of the vagina gets bigger and there is a loss of feeling (and pleasure). In some cases it can lead to urinary incontinence or leaking.

Vaginoplasty returns the vagina to “pre-pregnancy” state and recreates sexual excitement and pleasure for the woman (and the man)! Vaginoplasty also addresses urinary incontinence, hernia, and interior/posterior repair. Some doctors use a laser for vaginoplasty and or labiaplasty surgery. You may hear variations of terms such as: labiaplasty or laser labiaplasty or vaginal rejuvenation and vaginoplasty or laser vaginoplasty or vaginal tightening. The difference is that some doctors are trained to use the laser for cosmetic vaginal surgery and reconstructive vaginal surgery and some use a scalpel. Both are effective.
